Neuromodulations (Spinal Cord Stimulators) Treatment
What is Spinal Cord Stimulator therapy? (SCS)
Pain is an electrical signal that travels through the spinal cord to the brain. Having chronic pain can become unbearable. Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) is a form of treatment to address this chronic pain.
Spinal Cord Stimulation masks or “covers up” these pain signals by delivering doses of electricity to change the pain signal into something the brain interprets as a pleasant sensation called paresthesia. SCS is a safe and effective therapy that has been in use for more than 30 years and is engineered to manage pain, so that the pain does not manage you. It has helped thousands of people find pain relief. Prior to permanent implantation, a temporary procedure, where an external temporary stimulator is utilized, will make certain that this device will be of benefit to you.
Is SCS right for you? When should this therapy be considered?
- Failed Back Surgery
- Scar Tissue
- Refractory Angina
- Phantom Limb Pain
- Herniated discs
- Spinal Stenosis
- Diabetic Neuropathy
- Sciatica
- Reflex symptomatic dystrophy
- Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
- Degenerative Disc Disease
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Osteoarthritis of the Spine
- Peripheral Neuropathy
SCS trials can be performed in the office or outpatient setting with the permanent placement of the generator introduced at the Hospital. The patient will usually return home the same day as the procedure. SCS is considered a minimally invasive procedure with a small incision. This procedure is reversible.
