Bachelor of Science, Physical Therapy: Grand Valley State University
Sharon became an employee of The Spine Center before it opened, in June 2007. As the first Physical Therapist hired, she was responsible for choosing the equipment, establishing protocols and hiring staff. She chose The Spine Center because she “Liked the vision of the founding physicians and the idea of physical therapists and physicians working together as a team in the best interest of the patient.” She was also excited to be in on the ground floor of creating a professional working environment that was supportive of both patients and staff alike and that produced positive functional results through high quality therapy. A high school experience led her to choose physical therapy as a career. As a runner she received physical therapy herself and she also volunteered at a muscular dystrophy camp where she was paired with a child and was able to observe the interaction between the child and the physical therapist. Seeing the difference made in that child’s life made Sharon want to be a physical therapist herself. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Grand Valley State University and has attended several continuing education courses during her 18 years as a Physical Therapist. She has also been a lab assistant for Great Lakes Seminars’ Holistic Treatment of the Foot and Ankle course since 2004. Great Lakes Seminars provides continuing education courses throughout the U.S. for physical therapists/assistants and other health care professionals. Sharon’s vision for The Spine Center is to become known as “the best outpatient physical therapy clinic in the greater Lansing area. A place where any physician will feel confident sending their patients, whether their injury is sports-related, spinal, orthopedic or any general pain/dysfunctional diagnosis, knowing that when they send their patients to the Spine Center they will get good results."
Sharon and her husband enjoy exercise, bike-riding and spending time with family and friends.
