Lindsay Herrera is a graduate of Bastyr University, Kenmore, Washington, where she obtained her bachelor's degree in Herbal Sciences (western herbalism) and a Masters of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She is a Diplomat of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine designated by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and is a member of the Michigan Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAAOM). She is a registered acupuncturist in the state of Michigan and a licensed massage practitioner in the state of Washington. Having been born and raised in Michigan she has a passion to increase alternative health care options currently available to the Michigan public. She joined The Spine Center in February, 2008 because of the “sole focus on the patients’ health and well-being”. She says, “The holistic approach the spine center offers creates an open environment where Eastern and Western medicine can come together, join forces, and work as a team to offer each patient as many healing options as possible, all under one roof.”
Lindsay’s personal experience drew her to the acupuncture and herbal medicine fields. She began her studies at Michigan State University, Lyman Briggs College, where she studied for two years. She then moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, continuing her education at the University of Minnesota. It was during this time that she discovered the healing arts of reflexology and massage. She then began seeking out schools offering an alternative health care curriculum.
During her time at Bastyr University, Lindsay worked as a pharmacy assistant at a compounding pharmacy specializing in natural hormone replacement and Chinese herbal compounds. She also interned with an acupuncture and oriental medicine practitioner specializing in women's healthcare, maternity care, and fertility support. Lindsay also interned with Ian Cyrus, President Emeritus of the American Association of Oriental Medicine (AAOM), who specializes in pain management and currently practices in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Lindsay enjoys working as part of a team with each patient. She strives to offer a welcoming, calming, centering environment in which the patient can feel relaxed, comfortable, and able to settle into their body. She says, “During each treatment I hope that the patient is able to rest, even sleep, on the table or approach a meditative state, taking note of small changes that occur during the treatment. I am very passionate about what I do mainly because in addition to decreasing pain, acupuncture can improve quality of life by supporting sleep, digestion, stress, and energy thus allowing the body to heal itself. This ancient medicine amazes me everyday. I am just a conduit supporting the body in its ability to heal itself. I am fueled each time a patient tells me that their pain has lessened or their sleep improved, that they have more energy, or that their digestion has improved.”
Lindsay envisions the Spine Center's acupuncture department as a vital part of our team approach to healing. “Through education, experience, and results acupuncture is quickly becoming a preferred healthcare choice throughout the country. In conjunction with western medicine, physical therapy, massage therapy, and the holistic approach adopted by the Spine Center team, we are creating a recipe for healing.”
Lindsay enjoys travel, hiking, gardening, dancing, reading and Yoga. She also grows medicinal herbs, and is very interested in the green movement, including the Reduce-Reuse-Recycle effort, alternative energy, and conscious living in regard to others and our role in society.
