Shelly Hickey, PTA

Shelly Hickey has been a Physical Therapist Assistant at The Spine Center since its opening in September, 2007. Before joining The Spine Center, she spent time at Sparrow Hospital, Memorial Healthcare in Owosso, and Ingham County Medical Care Facility. She also provided home-based care for physical therapy patients.
Shelly became a Physical Therapist Assistant after a work-related injury required her to undergo physical therapy herself. With her therapist’s encouragement, she completed the Physical Therapist Assistant program at Baker College – Flint in 1995. Her favorite kind of case is one that challenges her to analyze and research the best treatment for her patient. She specializes in aquatic therapy, posture education and evaluating what postures might be contributing to a patient’s pain.
Shelly appreciates the mission of The Spine Center because it allows her to focus on providing one-on-one patient care, satisfying her love of teaching and relating to patients. Her vision is to maintain a patient-focused environment, with a cohesive staff that enjoys learning from each other. In addition to her work as a Physical Therapist Assistant, Shelly also teaches violence prevention and customer service training. She enjoys painting, drawing, spending time in nature and enjoying the company of her husband and daughter.
