Welcome
 About The Spine Center...

Our Mission:
Providing excellence in the care and treatment of patients with musculoskeletal disorders.

The Spine Center is pleased to welcome John A. Jerome, PhD and Jennifer A. Flaminio, LMSW to our clinical team. Together they offer pain psychology services to those suffering from chronic pain. As part of our team approach, Dr. Jerome and Ms. Flaminio will offer effective coping strategies for emotional health while physicians of other specialties treat the physical ailments underlying pain.

Dr. Jerome joins The Spine Center following years in private practice. He and others created the first pain clinic in Michigan to combine muscle tension biofeedback, pain counseling, physical therapy and pain injections to treat both the pain and the person suffering its effects. He is excited to continue that tradition at The Spine Center. Dr. Jerome has also worked as the pain psychologist at several hospitals and medical centers throughout the mid-Michigan region.

Our pain psychology team believes that chronic pain is its own disease process that imposes severe emotional, physical, economic and social stresses on patients and families. There is no question that continuous pain greatly erodes any chance at a meaningful life. The goal of working with a pain psychologist or psychotherapist, when a complete pain cure is not possible, is to reduce and manage the pain, restoring function and quality of life. Dr. Jerome and Ms. Flaminio will work closely together to provide psychological counseling to patients. Together, they will offer options including individual psychotherapy; group pain management therapy; biofeedback and muscular relaxation training; cognitive behavioral therapy; and make disability determinations.

The addition of Dr. Jerome and Ms. Flaminio to our practice enhances our capabilities and expands the spectrum of care available at The Spine Center, furthering our mission to broaden the pain treatment options available to the mid-Michigan community. Dr. Jerome and Ms. Flaminio join a staff of physiatrists and physical therapists collaborating to provide holistic care based on patients’ goals to return them to maximum functionality. We treat a broad range of disorders, from general pain to spinal injuries, peripheral joint injuries, sports and work-related injuries, and chronic long-term disabilities, both acquired and congenital. Working together, rehabilitation, physical therapy, acupuncture, massage therapy and now, pain psychology, create a recipe for healing.

Greater Lansing Food Bank Wins in March Madness Challenge

As the MSU basketball team began its amazing March Madness run, the employees of Lansing Neurosurgery wanted to build on the excitement in a way that would help out the Lansing community. It was Patty Filko, nurse for neurosurgeon Charles Bill, who offered the challenge to their sister organization, The Spine Center. According to the rules, employees had the entire month of March to bring in unexpired food donations. The prize for the facility contributing the most food was a pizza party. With the challenge accepted, the race was on! The number of employees at each location is pretty evenly matched, so excitement was high as donations began to come in.

Items were counted daily, with periodic reports provided by the COO, Dave Corteville. Early on The Spine Center developed a strategy to win the competition. Instead of contributing daily, they held their donations until the last few days of March. By letting Lansing Neurosurgery get ahead in the daily tallies, Spine Center employees hoped to lull their colleagues into a false sense of security. One person at The Spine Center volunteered to be the point person and cheerleader for her facility’s efforts. While donations of money were not included in the rules of the competition, she collected money and went on a shopping trip for her fellow employees in the final days of the event.

In the end, The Spine Center’s strategy was successful; they contributed 1,556 items, while Lansing Neurosurgery donated 662. Together the Centis Health family gave 2,218 food items to the Greater Lansing Food Bank.
